Earning crypto tokens from cameras, devices and machines

Also sold as “DePIN and tokenised machine income”

VerdictStated rates, unproven

OVER states up to $18 per approved hour, paid in its token, so a $700 camera needs 39 or more approved hours at listed locations; nobody’s actual earnings are published. Machine-revenue tokens are a company-stated 10 to 15% yield on capital you can lose.

The claim“earn it back by walking”

Operator's own post: buy a $700 camera, map listed locations, earn rewards. Paid in its own crypto token.

  1. 1The key sum
    About 39 hours

of approved mapping to earn back the $700 camera at up to $18 an hour (our estimate)2

  2. 2If you keep tokens
    7 of 8

of eight device-network tokens we chose fell over one year; affects rewards kept, not sold10

  3. 3The company's own example
    $900 a month

OVER's example for 50 approved hours at top rate, in its token; we found no mapper's pay2

  4. 4What it takes
    $8 to $18

an hour is the most OVER says it pays, set by area tier; only locations OVER lists pay3

The claim

“POV: you bought an @insta360 X6 for $700 and found out you can earn it back by walking. […] Grab your camera, open the OVER app, map incentivized locations around you, and earn rewards while you walk.”

@OVRtheReality, 6 October 2026, 23,599 views when collected1. This is the account of OVER, the company that runs the programme1.

The other two of the 3 tweets we collected come from small accounts1. One describes a crypto network called peaq as a way to earn from what machines make, and gives no rate, price or amount1. The other repeats the payout record of DualMint, a company selling tokens that claim a share of machines’ income1. The page judges the scheme, not the people who tweeted.

This is called DePIN: a company pays the public in its own crypto token to do physical work with their own devices. A token is a digital unit worth only what others will pay.

The sums

OVER’s page says a mapper with a supported camera can “earn up to $18 in OVR for every approved hour of mapping, depending on location”2. $18 is a ceiling, OVER decides which hours are approved, and OVR is OVER’s own token2. A blog post gives lower ceilings of $12 and $8 an hour for lesser areas, and says rates are adjusted to each country’s economy and may change3.

A launch report prices the camera at $699.9911; we could not confirm that on Insta360’s own store12. Hours to earn it back (our estimate)2311:

At $18 an hourAt $12 an hourAt $8 an hour
Approved hoursabout 39about 58about 88

Only locations OVER lists pay, and each map is reviewed and can be rejected2. OVER does not say how many listed locations exist near anyone, or what share of maps is approved24.

The reward is set in dollars and paid in OVR4. OVER’s terms say: “We don’t guarantee the value of OVR or that you will be able to exchange it.”4 OVR is down about 71% over one year10. That hits a mapper who keeps the tokens, not one who sells as soon as they arrive410.

The machine tokens are an investment, not work. DualMint calls 10–15% a year after fees “the conservative estimate” for a pooled product its page says is not live yet13. At that rate, $1,000 a month needs $80,000 to $120,000 put in (our estimate)13. We could open no outside audit of these yields13.

What happens to most people who try

We do not know. We found no participant’s income log or payment proof for OVER’s camera programme, DualMint or peaq’s machine tokens. We did not search Reddit, Discord, Telegram or YouTube. OVER’s live statistics give no number of mappers and no total paid2.

Older networks of this kind do have a record. Fortune reported in 2022 that one prominent owner’s Helium wireless hotspot went from about $16,000 a month in tokens to about $10; that is one owner, not a typical one31. Of eight such tokens we chose to check, seven fell over the past year, which matters for rewards kept and not sold10.

OVER’s terms let it change or end the programme; rewards for maps already approved are promised4.

The upside

What it takes to compete

The documented winners have one of four things: a good location, an early start, equipment others lack, or capital they can leave and lose23315617. DualMint’s risk page says its products “carry real risk including loss of principal”, meaning the money put in14. Holders of its newest token can leave only by selling into a trading pool seeded with $20,000, under 9% of the $227,500 raised (our estimate)1617.

Costs: the camera, mobile data, travel, withdrawal fees and tax41148.

How to tell early:

  1. Open the app before buying. Count the listed locations within reach.
  2. After a few uploads, compare approved hours with hours walked2.
  3. See whether the first withdrawal passes OVER’s one-time identity check and sells for about the quoted dollar value. OVER’s terms guarantee neither24.
  4. For a machine token, compare your holding with the pool you would sell into17.

Who else makes money from it

Here the seller is the network itself1. OVER buys each map and resells the data; it publishes no revenue figure7. DualMint takes 10% of each monthly lease payment on its newest token16. peaq, the network in the second tweet, announced an investment in DualMint a week after that tweet201.
