Trading signal and call groups

Also sold as “Alpha groups”

VerdictPays a few callers

In most studies, followers who held called coins for days lost on average; the exceptions are a skilled 28% of stock tipsters, some small accounts and automated trading within the hour. Callers collect the money, yet about 80% of Whop trading products earn nothing.

“865X” means the price is said to have multiplied 865 times. A “memecoin” is a crypto coin traded on attention alone. A call group is a Telegram or Discord chat where someone posts “calls”, messages saying what to buy. The tweet gives no coin addresses, so we could not check its multiples, and it mentions no group1. Our collection holds only 5 tweets, so this page rests mainly on how such groups are promoted and sold generally1. It judges the scheme, not the people who tweeted.

The sums

In one study of 35,569 tweets by 180 prominent crypto influencers, the coin rose 1.83% on average on the day of the tweet79. Measured from the second day, the average was -2.24% after 10 days, -6.53% after 30 and -18.90% after 9079. For holding for days the average is negative, so no stake and no number of calls produces $1,000 a month; a bigger stake makes the expected loss bigger (our reasoning).

A buy and a sell of a small memecoin on the Solana network, through a trading bot (a program that trades from inside Telegram), cost about 4.3% to 4.5% (our estimate)6924. One memecoin community on Whop, a marketplace for such groups, charges $50 a month: 10% a month on a $500 pot (our estimate)18.

What a pot must return each month, after costs, to pay $1,000 (our estimate):

Trading moneyNeeded each month
$500200%
$5,00020%
$38,5002.6%

The 2.6% is the best measured edge we found for any callers, above the market and before costs: a minority of stock tipsters, not memecoin groups8.

What happens to most people who try

No study or dataset we found says how many group members end up ahead.

CoinWire, a crypto news site, tracked 1,567 memecoins promoted by 377 X accounts7. After one week 80% of the coins had lost 70% or more, and only 3% ever rose ten times7. The study is not peer reviewed.

A trading education site says it followed 112 stock signals from 7 groups for four weeks32. It logged 46% winners; with deleted losing calls left out, the groups’ public record looked like 62%32. The test is small, self-reported and from a site that earns from broker referrals32.

We traced one call from our collection, from a different and smaller account that we do not name. The price peaked 18 minutes after the tweet, about 77% above its level two to three minutes before it; a day later it was about 81% below that level (our estimates)12. We do not know whether the author bought or sold. One call is not a rate.

The upside

What it takes to compete

To tell early: for a month, log every call at the price you could have bought at, compare it with what the group celebrates, and ask how the caller is paid.

Who else makes money from it

The group owner is paid whether calls are right or not, through subscriptions18 or a share of members’ trading fees. GMGN, a Solana trading bot, pays 10% to 30% of its 1% fee to whoever referred the trader26.

Most owners earn little. On Whoptrends’ estimates, about 80% of trading products on Whop earn nothing (our sum; the category includes courses and tools as well as call groups), and the median one with any revenue makes $333 a month23.

Owners also carry legal risk. In Hong Kong a man who ran a paid Telegram group giving stock recommendations was sentenced to six weeks in prison in November 2025 for advising without a licence; he intended to appeal and we did not check the outcome52. That case concerns only him.
