Copy-paste token airdrop posts

VerdictNo payout; wallet risk

Following these posts has no documented payout; real airdrops go to a project’s earlier users on its own site. All 35 links led to three free-hosted sites, and the one we read asks only to connect a wallet, a pattern documented elsewhere as emptying wallets.

The claim

We quote no tweets: every account in our collection of 37 tweets has fewer than 4,000 followers, below the size at which we name an account1. This page judges the scheme, not the people who posted.

35 of the 37 tweets follow one template: an emoji, a token’s name said to be “on Solana” (a blockchain), one sentence inviting the reader to look at the token’s “crypto airdrop”, a contract address (the long string that identifies a token), and one shortened link1. An airdrop is a free hand-out of a crypto token. In the tweet text we collected, none of the 35 gives an amount, who is eligible, a deadline or who is running the airdrop1.

The sums

The posts state no income1. All 35 links led to three free-hosted sites, and none led to a token’s own site2. We read the one that 33 links pointed to34. It is one template that shows an “airdrop” for whatever token address is in the link, so it is not evidence that any named token has one35. Its only button is “Connect Wallet”3. A wallet is the app that holds a person’s crypto and approves transactions. The page’s “live” list of people claiming is built by its own code, not read from the blockchain35.

We connected no wallet, so we did not see what happens next. Mandiant, Google’s security unit, described pages posing as Solana token airdrops in January 2024: the visitor connects a wallet, is asked to sign a transaction, and the funds are taken9. It adds: “If they reject the transaction, the attempted theft will fail.”9 That is a documented pattern these pages resemble, not proof that these pages did the same.

Skip the link, buy the named tokenOf 20 tokens with a trading pool (the pot of funds that lets a token be bought and sold), 8 rose and 12 fell over about four days; median minus 4.7% (our estimate, before fees)780.6% to 2.5% in fees for a buy and a sell on tokens from Pump.fun, a site where new tokens are created; 9 of the 33 addresses carry its mark (our sum and count)142

Those loss averages come from other lures and are pulled up by a few very large cases; no source gives a median1011.

What happens to most people who try

We found no report, verified or self-stated, of anyone receiving tokens or money by following a post of this kind. We also found no victim count for these links and no regulator, court or security-firm report that names these sites.

For 13 of the 33 addresses, the price site we used listed no trading pool that day7. Of the 20 that had one, 10 of the 13 smaller tokens (valued under $10 million) fell over about four days, with a median of minus 20.3%; of the 7 larger ones, 5 rose and 2 fell (our estimate, before fees)78. Twenty tokens over four days is too small a sample to generalise from.

The upside

For a reader who clicks and connects, we found none. The nearest real thing is a project’s own airdrop.

Most products never hand out a token, so the usual result for an earlier user is nothing (our estimate). Prices also move: Jupiter’s base amount was worth about $74 on 10 October 2026 (our estimate)48. None of this is reached through the links in these posts.

What it takes to compete

For real airdrops, what counts is having used the product before a stated cut-off; the posts state none14950. Jito, a Solana project, set its cut-off two days before it announced its airdrop49.

What it costs: at most, whatever the connected wallet holds. The table gives the averages lost in other campaigns and the fees for buying a named token101142.

How to tell early:

Who else makes money from it

In our 37 tweets, nobody sells a course, a community or a trading bot1. Who runs the accounts or the pages, and whether they earn anything, is not established.

In the documented pattern, the person who spreads the links keeps about 80% of what is taken and the tool’s operator about 20%914.

If the reader buys a Pump.fun token instead, the site takes 0.95% of each trade in the token’s first trading stage and the token’s creator 0.30%; later fees vary with the token’s size42.
